NC 44 is a temporary designation for the new US 70 Bypass of Goldsboro. It has a 70 MPH speed limit, the only state highway in NC so designated without multiplexing with an Interstate or US highway. The milemarkers are for US 70 mileage, but have an NC 44 shield on them.
The US 117 Connector from Calypso to I 40 is now signed. It is the only signed Connector route in NC. It is bannered North/South from I 40 north to US 117 at Calypso.
