On Day 5, there were tremendous rainstorms along our path home through DC and Richmond. Our GPS diverted us south on I 97 from I 895. Approaching MD 100, it said there were Flash Flood warnings along our route and offered us a safer route. The route swung us west around DC, out I 66 to US 29 home. It was the largest diversion I have seen the router make. We stopped for lunch in Warrenton VA. I checked the routing and traffic through Richmond was a mess and showing Flash Flood Warning still. We continues home through Charlottesville, Lynchburg and Danville with much nicer weather.

US 60 through the Salt River canyon is one of the great roads. We stopped at the rest area at the US 60 bridge, walked the old bridge and photographed the canyon and the new bridge.

Historic US 80 is signed on US 60 just west of AZ 89 (historic US 80). It is interesting that there is a Historic sign for US 80, but not for US 70, which also ran along this road.

The exhibition is in an old Ford factory, where they built Model A and Model T automobiles. Later, it was used for munition manufacture during the war. They repaved part of the factory floor with wooden bricks to prevent sparking if munitions fell on the war.

They are still working on the new ramp into Concord Mills. It seems to be taking forever.

Construction through Kannapolis is done, but there is bridge work happening between China Grove and Salisbury.

Mount Pleasant NC is a cute little town. On NC 73, there is a What-a-burger #13. There is a building named 73 & Main, at the corner of NC 73 and Main Street. East of town is Southern Grace Distilleries, which is in a former state prison.

There are times to avoid the Bay Bridge, like on Labor Day, where the backup was 14 miles long, but otherwise it should be better that going through Baltimore.
